In the realm of professional services, there often arises a misconception regarding the value of certain skills. When confronted with the notion that my services were deemed too expensive for what some may label as "unskilled labor," I found myself reflecting on the essence of my role. It dawned on me that my clients sought my assistance precisely because of the unique set of skills and insights I bring to the table. Rather than condemning them or dismissing the comment, I responded with composure, emphasizing the tangible benefits my expertise offered in resolving their organizational challenges and reminded them that they had previously told me that they lacked the ability, time and knowledge to complete the project on their own, therefore I would challenge the notion that my services were unskilled and in fact very much needed in this case.
Drawing parallels to other professions such as plumbing, electrical work, or painting, I often remind clients of the ease with which they enlist specialized assistance in those areas. Just as they trust professionals in these fields to address their needs efficiently, there should be no hesitation in seeking help for organizing tasks. The absence of certain skills, time constraints, or simply the recognition of needing support should never evoke guilt, shame, or hesitance to hire someone you need to help you with a task you are struggling to complete on your own.
